KINGS OF PUMPKIN KNOB

Fiction / Young Adult  │ 153 pgs.

The Kavanagh Clan live on the Island in Maine year-round and rarely leave the safety of this idyllic paradise. How lucky they are to be able to spend their days living the dreams that the summer people and the tourist gladly pay big bucks to experience. Islanders don’t just get a week or two vacation, they live this life every day of the year. To grow up on an island with little care of what is going on in the city across the bay just a short ferry ride away. With little use for the news on the tv or the radio and just rely on the gossip of their neighbors or the telephone operators to stay informed of current events. It’s summertime now and school is over for another year. Joe Kavanagh is living life with the most freedom he has ever had. His family never has 2 dimes to rub together, however, they are certainly not poor at all. Follow Joe, his brother and sister, along with friends Kenny and Lillian as they explore the island and the world around them. Each day is as new to them and fresh as the summer rain. They find humor, fear, and love along with a whole bunch of trust in each other. Follow this family and the people around them as they navigate the 1960s on a small island off the coast of Maine. Kings of Pumpkin Knob is a good read for anyone who wants to be able to shut their eyes and imagine what life was like back then. The reader will close the back cover with a genuine smile on their face.

Daniel Bishop Feeney grew up in a community, not unlike Pumpkin Knob, and he relives a lot of his own experiences
through the characters in his first book.
